Racha Yai is the most popular diving site closest to Phuket Island. Just 90 minutes by boat from Chalong Bay in Phuket, it offers a range of marine life that is popular among both beginners and professionals. The calm and clear waters of both islands are ideal for divers looking for an easy day out, especially for divers who haven't been in the water for a long time.
There are a few small shipwrecks in Racha Yai that divers can see. The most popular is the Harruby Wreck, which is located between Bay 1 and Bay 2 on the east side of the island.
It is the most popular destination in Phuket for scuba divers and snorkeling. The place can sometimes be crowded with divers, especially during peak times.
Rasha Yai and Rasha Noi were severely affected by coral bleaching in 2010. Rasha Noi is recovering better, although both diving sites are far from their former glory.
The rest of the coral begins almost immediately at the water's edge and begins to crumble around the 20-meter mark. Better and better reefs are now in shallow waters.
